I wanted to provide you with an update regarding road safety issues including speeding, dangerous driving and parking, which people where you live are highlighting as an issue of concern in their survey responses. 🚔 Drink Drive Arrests
Friday - A driver was arrested Friday night on suspicion of drink driving following a stop at a local fast-food drive-thru. The driver ended up swapping their bargain bucket for an all-inclusive stay in our custody suite after failing a roadside breath test. Unfortunately for them, no amount of secret herbs and spices was going to cover the smell of alcohol. The driver has since been charged with failing to provide a sample and is due to appear at court in the coming days, where they face a significant driving ban.
Saturday - A driver was arrested on Saturday evening following reports from a member of the public who had witnessed the individual drinking an excessive amount of alcohol within a local pub. The individual was stopped by officers and provided a road side sample of 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣❌ nearly three times over the drink drive limit, they were quickly taken down into custody.
Sunday - Reports were made of a vehicle which was seen driving in an erratic manner. Officers were able to locate the vehicle in the Consett area and with help from witnesses were able to confirm the driver of the vehicle at the time. The individual provided a road side sample of 9️⃣4️⃣❌. Thankfully the individuals within the vehicle were unharmed however this could of been a completely different story should the member of public not contacted us.
⚠️ Remember: Drink driving is never worth the risk. If you’re planning to drink, make arrangements — book a taxi, arrange a lift, or have a designated driver. The consequences can be far more serious than a night in custody. Thank you for your continued support.
